Vancity Foodie: Tableau Bar & Bistro

Hope you enjoyed Natalie's Circle Craft posting yesterday.
The Craft fair was certainly a pleasant surprise; we never knew we would be there for so long! Our unexpected excitement in craft hunting almost had us miss our reservation at "Tableau Bar & Bistro" and that would have been the end of the world for us.

Tableau has been a "foodie's must" since their debut in 2011. From brunch to dinner, the restaurant is packed with people looking for casual french bistro.

The restaurante is located between Bute and Thurlow on Melville Street before /Starbucks. You won't be able to miss the bright blue entrance!

After the coat check, we looked over the busy restaurante and got more excited to try out their food.

Appitizers, Sandwichs, Seafood, Pasta, Steak.... mmmm

They offer wide range of lunch selections.  They also have daily specials and Wednesday's was the famous Duck Confit which we both had to try. Natalie and I also shared Crsipy Fish Cake as an appetizer.

Waiting for our food, our stomach started to rumble.

Our server brought us bread and butter but for me, the bread was too chewy:(

This is the fish cake. The tart tomato salad garnish with a bit of jalapeno gave a nice tang to the crispy fish cake. I hope to be able to recreate the salad, it had a subtle unique fragrance to it which I loved. Of course I would return to the restaurant if otherwise.

Finally, the dish we were all waiting for: Duck confit!  Though the meat wasn't as tender as I wanted it to be, the wholegrain mustard sauce was made to perfection. I suspect they filtered the wholegrain mustard and eliminated gritty texture it would contain. I definitely want to figure out how and try making this sauce at home. The baked bean also had a nice texture to it.

Although we were drooling over other the desserts other people ordered, Natalie and I were too full to try out. Panna Cotta sure sounded very tempting. Next time!

I expected to wait for our food a long time since the bistro was quite full, however out dishes came out relatively quickly and we were able to enjoy our lunch without turning grumpy. I also adore the fact that they have my favorite colour as their signature shade: blue! Their dishes were blue and beige-toned Le Creuset stonewares - also the coffee cups!

If you are expecting to visit Vancouver in a small group (1-4 people), I would sincerely recommend Tableau Bar and Bistro. The reason for "small group" is due to the limited capacity of the restaurant and the tables are packed together. The only downside of this place was that we were too close to the tables next to us and could hear their conversation too well. However as soon as the food comes out that becomes a minor issue :-P!! Reservation is not mandatory but recommended.

I will leave the info down below. Hope you enjoyed this post!

xoxo Vivian
