Disney On Ice 2014 Review

After days of nagging, my husband bought tickets to go see Disney on Ice. I remember being very excited & going to one as a child - and as a Disney fan, this was a necessary outing even on a week night.

*** Watch the full video of Mickey & the Magical Brooms from Fantasia - Disney on Ice Version! :-) Apologies on the sound! ....***

The show started at 7 PM and lasted for about hour and 40 minutes. Pacific Coliseum at the PNE was filled with little kids dressed as different Disney Princesses. This hockey skating rink for Vancouver Giants had transformed into mini Disney Store and also sold various merchandises including snow cones from Minnie's head - which at that instant, said to Ryan that that is as if we're eating out of her brain, and this kid looked at me in shock. Oopsie!

The program was well structured as expected! I did not find the stadium too cold either. It was fun to see little kids' reactions when Mickey is about to eat an apple that was given by the witch from Snow White. When purchasing the tickets, there were 4 different tickets for seating arrangement: Rinkside ($105), VIP ($65), and PL3 ($23-$45), or PL4 ($23-35). Despite the convenience charge and higher price for Rinkside, their chairs being folding chairs, did not look as comfortable. Their advantage is to have the Disney Princesses and other Characters waving directly to your kids.

I hear so many critiques about Disney Princesses and how they're teaching wrong values to girls. However, I cannot deny that I particularly enjoyed this bit about Minnie longing to find her prince charming after witnessing all their princesses having found their true love. Then there came Mickey! I was also quite impressed how Mulan looked exactly like Mulan from the film. How her hair sat and Han's built and everything! It was truly amazing to see such uncanny resemblance of the skaters with the characters they were playing. And oh! the skating - the level of figure skating of the performance was way beyond my expectation. All sorts of spinning, and holding another person up while skating in full speed, and flipping the princess over and what not - it was AMAZING.

Unfortunately I do not have any photos from Halloween bits. I had read a short message about the Halloween part and that how this can be scary for little kids. I truly think that was the most fun and exciting 15 minutes of the whole show. There literally were all the villains from all the Disney movies including Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians, Pumpkin King from the Nightmare before Christmas, Captain Hook, and all the other crooked witches and monsters.

After intermission, Mickey & Minnie traveled all around the world to meet Lilo & Stitch in Hawaii and over to China to meet Mulan again. Mickey & Minnie obviously had various cultural outfits in their wardrobe. It was probably because everyone is dancing and smiling to the extent the tip of your mouths are jointed with your ears, all the audience (especially myself - who's obviously a still a child!!) cannot help smiling and waving back.

The end!! And they all lived happily ever after.
