Osaka Day 2: Osaka-Jo, Kita, & Amerika-Mura

The second day of my Osaka trip stretched for the full day from morning to finish. Osaka Castle or Osaka-Jo is one of very historic sites that you can find in Osaka. We happened to go on a day where kindergartners (so i presume) had their field trip. It was very grand and very well maintained considering it goes back to year 1597. Then we walked around Minami's Amerika-Mura area for bit of shopping and visit to a cafe. My friend SJ insisted we wait for sunset to go up the Floating Garden of Umeda City and then onto Hep Five Ferris Wheel to finish!

More details of the trip after the jump! :-)

Obviously it's not just one castle but bunch other shrines and temples that surrounds them within the walls of area.

We found this Tonkatsu restaurant for lunch.

You can easily find small shrines while walking down a street randomly.

This is part of America-Mura. We noticed the street lights unique design and were amused!

We also went to Umeda Sky Building in Kita Area. This is also known as Sky Garden or New Umeda City. The connecting part of two twin buildings is called "Floating Garden Observatory" on 39th floor. The admission fee of 700 Yen provides a great view of the city. I believe we specifically went at such hour to enjoy the sunset - which unfortunately no technology of ours could capture.

They also had an area before entering the garden where you can make a wish.

The tube is an escalator getting you across the buildings. This quite resembles that of Pompidou in Paris but with different levels of thrill being such high up riding the glass tube.

Then we headed for Kita's Hep Five Ferris Wheel (the red ferris wheel in the photo). I had particular interest nor set expectation of the ride but since it felt quite short, I must have enjoyed it. It was a different experience to ride a ferris wheel amongst the buildings within a city. The price was 500 Japanese Yen. As it's located in the city center with lots of malls around, you can easily find restaurant joints, too.

And that was the end of my second day in Osaka. Now....moving on to day 3! :-)

Areas are as below:
  • Kita (City North): Umeda, Kita
    • leading fashion and trend streets, "gateway to kansai," commercial district, Grand Front Osaka - largest shopping center in Japan (via JR Osaka Station)
  • Minami (City South)/Dotombori
    • the lively area with Kanidouraku & Glico signs, Minamisemba and Horie with lots of shops and cafes, and Shisaibashi, Amerika-mura (American Village) with more shopping! Bunraku and Kabuku show theatres, as well as manzai style comedy - "The REAL Osaka"
  • Osaka Castle (Osaka-Jo), Tsurumiryoukuchi
    • very historic area with meseum and ruins
