Honey Butter Chip

There has been a craze going on over a bag of potatoe chips lately in South Korea. It's been on the mainstream news and all the Korean idols and celebs been buzzing about it. Haitai's "Honey Butter Chip" is what it is called and it claims to be flavoured with French gourmet butter and real honey.

Since its debut, as soon as it hits the shelves, it gets sold out in an instant. Some people who were lucky enough to stock up on them even sell them for $30-$50 on ebay - such a clever way to grow their money eh? I honestly cannot understand people's reaction over a bag of chips. I mean, how good can it be?
I was only allowed to wonder about this so called "golden potatoe chip" because I live in Canada, however, my mother who has maintained good relationships with the supermarket clerk sent me a bag of Honey Butter Chip as a surprise gift in my parcel.

The Chip everyone's been wanting to get their hands on is in my hands. Thank you, mom!

Saying that they use French gourmet butter that has been fermented for 12 hours and if course honey.

I had to go through torturous time waiting for Ryan to get back home from work. Trying to be a faithful wife!  :-P

As soon as he came home I opened the bag and the first thing I said was that it smells like sugar crust coated puff pastry.

Smelled very close to Sfogliatine Glassate which is an Italian snack.

Now the taste.. It is different from other potatoe chips for sure. Instead of being salty like all potatoe chips are, Honey Butter Chip is sweet, but only slighlty sweet. I could definately taste the buttery after taste too. However, to me everything felf a bit bland; maybe it's because I am used to the strong taste of the potatoe chips here in Canada. And to be honest, even after tasting this, I still don't get the craze for it. I wonder if it was their brilliant way of marketing which worked really well creating almost a syndrome like reaction to the South Korean people or it might have just started out of curiosity?

Have you tried Honey Butter Chip??
