French Onion Soup

French Onion Soup...

Ahhh... isn't it the perfect soup for a chilly autumn night!
I have to say though, at a fancy french restaurante, it costs around $9-13+tax & tips for this bowl of soup. Oyy!

Hi, I'm Vivian and I would like to share my foolproof French Onion Soup Recipe.
You don't have to worry about a tight pocketbook; just need a few ingredients that are in your pantry.

Recipe made for:

  • 2 servings
  • cooking time approx 50 minutes

What you need:
  • 2 thinly sliced yellow onions
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 2 TBS unsalted butter
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 2 sprigs of thyme
  • little bit of freshly ground pepper and salt
  • 1/4 cup of cheap red wine
  • 1.5 TBS of flour
  • 2 cup Beef stock
  • at least 2 cups of Gruyere cheese
  • 2 slices of French baguettes

@ preheat your oven to 500

1. in a large soup pot melt butter in medium high heat.
2. add onions, garlic, and bay leaf and stir constantly until onion turns brown for about 20minutes.
3. add thyme and stirl to mix in the flavour then pour wine cooking on high heat for about 10minutes so that the alcohol and liquida evaporate.
4. lower heat to medium low, add in flour and cook for another 5 minutes constanlty stirring to avoid flour burning.
5. pour in beef stock  and bring to boil. salt and pepper to your liking.
6. pour soup in to oven safe soup bowls top it with baguettes, and sprinkle grated cheese.
7. put in oven for about 10 minutes or until cheese turns nice and brown.
8. garnish with thyme or parsley and enjoy!

I would love to hear if you have any feedback and/or questions!

For my next post, I will be returning with a cup of warm Hazelnut milk to cozy up a weekend morning.

Until then, wishing you all a warm night,
xoxo Vivian
